I am sitting at my desk (not studio) enjoying the first rains of the season. 2016 has not been what I expected and I have found myself sorting and organising all sorts of things – but no painting, since I completed three commissions in January of this year. I feel this year will be a year of change of direction for me, as my hunger to go back and do what i have usually done, is lacking and I am hungry for something new, figurative, thick gutsy paint, drawing, sketching, abstract.

Apart from actually painting (eventually) my projects for this year are to get this website jacked up, design and print another series of gift cards, and produce a limited edition handmade book with the very talented Marlene Winberg. Big project and it;s going to be oh so special. (Thank you Marlene for your belief in me and my work and your encouragement in so many gentle and sincere ways.)

I am very excited about a new commission to do a historical painting of an old family home from Halfway House in Midrand (around 1960’s) featuring the old home and surrounds as well as the client featured with his mother. I look forward to the challenge of working with the figurative aspect as part of the landscape.

I will be spending two months of this year in one of the South African Art Society’s studios at the Cite des Arts in Paris. A great friend and artist is going with me and I look forward to many days of inspiration at the galleries and in the streets of Paris.
