Donna lives in Kalk Bay and loves the bustle of this fishing village and its working harbour. The lighthouse is iconic for her and she has painted it often, from various angles and in various moods. This is one of her favourites, depicting the local fishermen hard at work on the historic Kalk Bay Pier.

About Kalk Bay
The Kalk Bay lighthouse is set on the harbour wall of the picturesque Kalk Bay harbour. Kalk Bay is a small fishing village on the coast of False Bay, South Africa that is now a suburb of greater Cape Town that lies between the ocean and sharply rising mountainous heights that are buttressed by crags of grey Table Mountain Sandstone. The Foundation Stone for the harbour was laid in 1913.
The Kalk Bay Lighthouse is closely situated to the “Kalk Bay Reef”, which is renowned for heavy barrels and the associated shallow reef. Great photographic shots have been taken of huge swells breaking over the lighthouse and pier. Besides being a popular spot for fishermen, the Lighthouse pier is also perfect for whale watching when ever the Southern right whales can be seen playing or resting.
