Donna’s love of architecture and light, brought her attention to the large sea faring vessels which work the seas and oceans. They attracted her in the same way the lonely farms of the Karoo attracted her, displaying isolated communities going about their daily lives. The oil rigs are likened to floating communities and Donna is attracted by their mystique and remoteness, as well as the gritty reality of life aboard these rigs.

About Oil Rigs
An oil platform, offshore platform, or oil rig is a large structure with gear to drill a well into the ocean floor, to extract and process oil and natural gas. Also, to briefly store product until it can be brought to shore for refining and selling. In many cases, the platform contains facilities to house the workforce as well.
The platform may be fixed to the ocean floor, may consist of an artificial island, or may float. Remote subsea wells may also be linked to a platform by flow lines.
